Head of Community Development and Engagement
westway trust

Job Description

Job Purpose: Working with the Executive Team, you will implement community engagement plans for the Portobello scheme redevelopment, reimaging Maxilla, and other emerging development projects across the estate. You will understand and be able to facilitate community co-design and community led development, where appropriate, particularly supporting the realisation of an African and Caribbean led cultural space on the estate. You will also understand how to build capacity within the community for people to deliver services and programmes for themselves. You will help people in setting up groups and supporting groups to be sustainable and help nurture the eco-system of voluntary sector and community groups in the area.

We are looking for someone with energy and expertise in implementing a programme to reach a broad base of local residents, interest groups and local organisations to ensure people have a say and are involved as proposals progress. You will work with the Communications Team to make sure you are aligned on communication with key stakeholders. You will build successful relationships with a wide range of local groups and community leaders, establishing trust and mutual respect by involving them in the design and delivery of the Trust’s identified social programmes and development opportunities.

This role has significant management responsibility. You will inspire and work with the Community Engagement Manager, who is responsible for overseeing the success of a new community hub, and support this role in leading the implementation of a robust community engagement programme for Westway Trust’s Member Organisations. You will also be responsible for establishing and nurturing a network of community ambassadors (Community Connectors) to provide advice on Trust proposals and ways of working and help the Trust to engage with a wide variety of groups and interests. Finally, you will support the work of the Grenfell coordinator who is supporting people affected by the fire to rebuild their lives.

This role is central to our commitment to having constructive and beneficial dialogue with the communities we work with.
