We’re looking for a proactive, driven and charismatic Volunteer Support Officer to create and publicise volunteering opportunities, and help Shelter recruit, train, support and supervise volunteers.

Working alongside the Regional Volunteer Support Officer (South) and Central Volunteering Team,

you'll deliver an exemplary volunteering programme for Shelter's Services Division, making sure that we get great value from those donating their time, and that volunteers make the most out of their experience. With a focus on best practice, you'll ensure that we adopt and maintain a high-quality, consistent approach to volunteering.

In addition to this key role you'll develop structures to reward, recognise and value Shelter's volunteers, promoting volunteering as a route to enhancing diversity and social inclusion, while increasing community engagement and awareness of Shelter among a wide range of audiences / groups.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Contributing to volunteer recruitment campaigns, assessing applications, managing risk and liaising with key internal teams and external bodies
  • Delivering volunteer inductions and training programmes, alongside development pathways
  • Ensuring the requisite support and supervision is provided to volunteers
  • Meeting agreed key performance indicators, recording statistical data, reporting on volunteering activity and ensuring continuous improvement.

And what you’ll need:

  • A sound understanding of volunteering processes in voluntary sector service providers
  • Significant experience working with and supervising volunteers, ideally in a service delivery environment
  • Exceptional organisational and communication skills
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
