Job Description

Trustees Head Office- High Wycombe

Thames Valley Air Ambulance (TVAA) is the Charity responsible for funding the air ambulance service that serves Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire. The TVAA receives no Government or National Lottery funding, and relies solely on the generosity of the public and its corporate fundraisers to fund this vital service. It flies on average three missions a day, at an approximate cost of c£2,500 per flight. The primary role is to raise the funds required to keep this life-saving service operational. The Charity is located in High Wycombe and handles important tasks behind-the-scenes such as fundraising, marketing, communications and charity governance. 2015 saw the 15th Anniversary of the charity in which it won a number of national and regional awards for its people and operations. While the Charity will continue its close association with the South Central Ambulance Service, Babcock (helicopter service provider), the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance Charity, the John Radcliffe Hospital and the Oxford Trauma service, it will also continue to develop ever more innovative ways of providing Pre Hospital Emergency Medicine through its operations and via research and training to deliver, cutting edge, live saving technology.

Unremunerated- Expenses paid

The role and responsibilities of a trustee are extensive, with the main aim of ensuring the TVAA has a strategy with a clear and appropriate sense of direction, operating within all the external regulations and governance. The Charity prides itself on its high standards within this area, ensuring that they have often gone beyond the requirements of the Charity Commission and Fundraising Standards Board.

The Charity is now looking to appoint three new Trustees to complement the current board in their role of governing the organisation, setting policy, strategy and use of funds.

The Charity is keen to bring additional skills to its Board through the appointment of individuals who ideally have a background in one of the following areas:

●Provision of emergency services / medicine and prehospital services.

●IT experts, who are up to date in areas such as cyber security ,data protection and database management.

For these roles, the Charity will consider individuals seeking their first Trustee position or those seeking to add to their existing portfolio of Trustee work.

The third role is focussed on a more experienced / generalist, candidate who has enjoyed a successful track record of board level Trustee positions, gained in either the third sector or industry. They will have a clear understanding of the legal responsibilities and liabilities of a trustee.

The board has a very collaborative approach and successful candidates will want to be part of a highly committed and creative team, dedicated to the communities they serve.

Appointments are normally for 6 years. Trustees are unpaid, but reasonable out of pocket expenses can be reimbursed. Time commitment is approximately 8 days a year for Board and Sub-Committee meetings.
