Job Description

The organisation

The League Against Cruel Sports is UK's leading charity working to stop animals being persecuted, abused and killed for sport. The League was instrumental in helping bring about the landmark Hunting Act. We manage sanctuaries to protect wildlife, carry out investigations to expose law-breaking and cruelty to animals, and campaign for stronger animal protection laws and penalties. We work to change attitudes and behaviour through education, fact-based videos, scientific reports and public engagement events.

As a Trustee, you will contribute to our continued success by observing the legal obligations and responsibilities of trusteeship, and by contributing to the debate and discussion that will inform and shape our future direction and positioning. You will also be an ambassador for the League, representing us externally across a range of different stakeholders.

The role

We are looking to recruit new Trustees to join our board late 2016/early 2017. We are particularly keen to appoint Trustees who offer one or more of the following:

  • a strong appreciation of the needs of wildlife and other animals victimised is essential
  • deep experience of grant making and/or leadership of another substantial campaigning organisation
  • significant insight into government and in particular a strong track record with policymakers; or a strong track record of influencing the media or connections to a celebrity network
  • direct working in financial management and legal expertise would also be desirable

Regardless of background, we’re looking for people who will bring credibility and stature, adding value to an already diverse and high performing board. Crucially you will enjoy working as part of a formidable team and will share our deep commitment to upholding the vision and values of the League.
