Job Description

NHS hospitals treated more than 1,000 stabbings, glassing’s and other blade attacks on teenagers last year – a rise of more than 50 per cent per cent since 2013.

Do you care about tackling Youth Violence in all its forms? Do you want to help design and deliver a program to equip your peers with the skills and knowledge needed to live without violence and become agents of change?

The Youth Effect is looking for volunteers to take part in a 6-month training program to become TYE Youth Ambassadors for their local community. Youth Ambassadors will create their own community action projects and design and deliver educational resources to their peers. If you want to learn new skills and be part of our Pilot program, aimed at reducing levels of violence in London – then this is an opportunity for you.

10 Youth Ambassadors will take part in a 6-month training program focused on preparing them to lead their own community youth groups. The training will focus on these areas:

  • Introduction to Youth Violence
  • Communication skills
  • Facilitation skills
  • Safeguarding and child protection
  • Social Action and creating local change
  • Project management and running community projects

With the continued support of TYE, The Youth Ambassadors will:

  • Design Educational Resources to deliver to their younger peers
  • Run Educational sessions – aimed at increasing awareness and knowledge on key issues such as; Healthy relationships, online safety and sexual harassment. These sessions will focus primarily on safety and wellbeing. 
  • Develop Community Action projects and in doing so lead Peer to Peer learning and youth mobilisation activities within their setting.

At the end of their 6-month training session, each Youth Ambassador will be supported to run a community event aimed at; recruiting young people from within the community, delivering educational resources, raising awareness on the issue of Youth Violence and fundraising for their projects. The Youth Effect will also support you to build links within your community, run community consultations and set up their community youth projects.

For this role, you will be expected to:

  • Attend monthly meetings to take part in training and on-going development
  • Commit to 2 – 3 hours additional work per week
  • Commit to making ad-hoc meetings/events when needed 

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be between the ages of 18-26 
  • Be based in London
  • Have an interest in or experience of working on Youth Violence
  • Be passionate about campaigning to end Youth Violence in all its forms
  • Have time to work hard as an Ambassador
  • Be confident and flexible
