Chief Executive
the joseph rowntree charitable trust

Job Description

The Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust is a Quaker trust which supports people who address the root causes of conflict and injustice. This support is provided, primarily, by making grants to organisations working on our priority issues in the UK.

We believe in supporting people to create change towards a better world. We recognise that change can take many years to achieve and we are prepared to work with difficult and contentious issues. We are willing to take the long view, and to take risks. We try to be flexible enough to respond to the changing needs and demands of our world.

We are currently seeking to appoint a Chief Executive to lead the Trust through an exciting phase of its development as the Trust seeks to expand its grant-making. Reporting to the Board of Trustees, you will be responsible for developing and maintaining the strategic direction and organisational aims of the Trust. You will ensure excellence in relationship management, reporting and accountability as well as financial oversight of the Trust’s endowment and budget.

This is a unique opportunity for a proven leader to join one of the UK’s leading independent funders. You will bring strong strategic leadership and management skills, ideally gained in a complex stakeholder setting. You will bring a track record of working within the charitable and/or voluntary sector as well as experience of communications and external representation. You will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the social and political environment in which the Trust operates as well as the policy issues which impact our work. An emotionally intelligent and thoughtful leader, above all else you must bring an authentic commitment to the values and spirit of the organisation.

The Joseph Rowntree Charitable Trust deeply values diversity and is committed to the recruitment and retention of individuals of underrepresented backgrounds, including but not limited to gender, race, age, religion, and sexual orientation.
