Trustee/Directors
the friendly almshouses

Job Description

'By Women, for Women': The Friendly Almshouses is a registered charity based in Brixton, SW9.  Founded as the ‘Friendly Female Society’ in 1802, it has provided for women in housing need for nearly 200 years.  In 2015 we became a Company limited by guarantee.

This is a very exciting and challenging time for the Charity, as we are embarking on a redevelopment programme that has been planned for some years.  Once completed, the accommodation we provide will meet modern standards and expectations.  Currently, we have seventeen residents ranging in age from their mid-fifties to 104.  When the new building is completed in 2019 we shall have accommodation for up to forty women.  Our residents live in a sheltered community that is supported by the Clerk to the Trustees, a resident warden, and her non-resident deputy.

The Charity would like to hear from women interested in becoming a Trustee (which also means becoming a Director of the Company).  The ethnic and cultural mix of our community is highly diverse, and our Trustee body needs to better reflect this.  We are particularly interested in hearing from women who have skills and experience in any of the following areas:  governance, fundraising, marketing, housing management, business development, and social/health care.

The minimum time commitment is an average of one day a month, including a half-day plus preparation time for the Trustee meetings, currently scheduled for the second Wednesday morning of each month.

To be considered for appointment, you are asked to provide a full CV, a signed Statement of Eligibility, and a brief covering letter.  This should explain what interests you about the role, and how your skills and experience could assist us in meeting our charitable aims and objectives.

The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
