Communications Co-Ordinator
the connection at st. martin-in-the-fields

Job Description

The Connection at St Martin’s (CSTM) is based in the heart of London, near Charing Cross Station and Trafalgar Square.  CSTM has been helping homeless people since the First World War and is one of London’s largest homelessness charities.  CSTM helps 4000 people each year through delivery of services for rough sleepers and people who are vulnerably housed.

Alongside our own fundraising and some statutory work, the charity benefits from the BBC Radio 4 Christmas Appeal, run by our partners - St Martin-in-the-Fields Charity.  CSTM has a high profile, a sound financial footing and an ambitious new 5 year strategy.  We are recruiting for a Communications Co-ordinator to join our Fundraising and Communications Team to help take forward our plans by:

  • Helping to create a communications strategy and providing the resulting ongoing communications support;
  • Managing the CSTMs website and digital media presence to enhance our reputation as an innovative, effective frontline charity;
  • Provide material for the BBC Radio 4 Appeal;
  • Providing a proactive response to the press and media;
  • Building the capacity of the service staff to understand marketing.

The successful candidate will have a track record as a generalist in communications.  They will be able to reflect the charity’s mission, values and create key messages to use in all communications.  They will be confident and experienced in handling the press and high profile visitors.  They will be innovative and resourceful in working within a small budget to promote the charity’s work.  Finally, they will have the credibility and skills to be able to work closely with non-communications colleagues and clients to ensure authenticity in all materials and on-line content.
