Job Description

Honorary Treasurer Trustee plus 2 additional Trustees

North West London • Approximately 7 days a year

Seeking Trustees in FinanceBusiness DevelopmentFundraisingHR Governance and those from the Statutory & Voluntary sectors.

Voluntary unpaid roles where, for giving up your valuable time for approximately seven days a year, you’ll help influence the lives of children and young adults, to support them to be better equipped for life. Our success in growing services and by recently being awarded Youth Endowment Funds will

help prevent more young people with behavioural problems from entering out-of-home care by providing intensive therapeutic support to young people and their families and engaging key influencers such as teachers and community members who can champion the young person to sustain positive change.

Running a successful registered charity focused on young people, sexual health, mental health & wellbeing calls for experience in a broad range of areas. We are particularly interested in hearing from individuals with a background in Finance, Business Development, Fundraising, HR Governance and those from the Statutory & Voluntary sectors. If you have expertise in one or more of these areas, the Brandon Centre for Counselling and Psychotherapy for Young People would love to have you on the Board as a Trustee.

Founded in 1968, the roots of the Brandon Centre have inherently been centred around sexual health and psychotherapy for young people. As such, the Centre offers interventions for families of young people in serious trouble with the law and for parents struggling to bring up a teenager whose behaviour is out of control. Its aim is to maintain and develop an accessible and flexible professional service in response to the psychological, medical, sexual and social problems of young people aged 12 to 25 years. The Centre already has an enviable reputation for the services it provides. I am now looking for compassionate and committed individuals to become Trustees and help drive this wonderful charity forward in the future.

As a Trustee, ideally familiar with the North West London area, you’ll help ensure that the Centre complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations, and pursues its objects as defined in the governing document. You’ll also be tasked with seeing that the Centre applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects. For example, it must not spend money on activities that are not included in the objects. Actively contributing to the Board of Trustees by bringing firm strategic direction to the Centre will be important too, as will helping to set targets and overall policy, defining goals and evaluating performance against agreed targets.

In addition, you’ll be encouraged to use any specific skills, knowledge or experience you have to help the Board of Trustees reach sound decisions. This could involve leading discussions, identifying key issues, providing guidance on new initiatives, or offering advice in your area of expertise. Safeguarding the good name and values of the Centre, ensuring its financial stability and sustainability and monitoring the performance of our new CEO – all are elements of these vital voluntary roles.

The Centre’s Trustees meet six times a year and, where possible, support the Centre between meetings with most Trustees choosing to sit on one of our four sub committees. The Board also meets once a year for an away day to reflect and help the Chief Executive to plan for the years ahead. Accordingly, first and foremost, you must be willing to commit to attending these meetings. In terms of experience, in addition to the areas outlined above, the Centre would particularly welcome a background in the creation of shared value with the corporate sector, digital strategy, communications, legal expertise, human resource management or stakeholder engagement/collaborative partnerships.

A passion for supporting transformational change for excluded young people is vital too, while lived experience of the challenges facing young people’s wellbeing would also be welcomed. So, If you’re a firm believer in ensuring our young people receive the best support, counselling and psychotherapy to allow them to lead better lives, please email Sue Sowerby, Advising Consultant to the Brandon Centre, using the apply link provided indicating your interest and giving full contact details. A Trustee Recruitment Pack will then be sent to you with full details of the Brandon Centre's Trustee requirements.

Closing date: 9.00am Monday 25th November 2019

Selection/interview date: To be confirmed

In order to maintain the Board’s high standards of diversity, the Brandon Centre welcomes applicants from all backgrounds, of all ages and ideally local individuals.
