CEO
the bay trust

Job Description

Who We Want

The Bay Trust is looking for an experienced, engaging and entrepreneurial CEO to lead our team of amazing staff and volunteers who are all committed to innovative environmental education.

We are seeking someone with clear senior leadership experience, an entrepreneurial spirit, vision and a passion for the environment to enhance our growth and development. You will need to demonstrate previous successful management of budgets and grant applications since these are an important component of the role.

You must be an excellent communicator with exceptional ‘people skills’, able to lead and willing to listen, to advance the organisation, its team and our strategic partnerships. Previous experience in the charitable sector would be an advantage, as would a real passion for nature and the outdoors. A sense of humour and a willingness to ‘muck in’ would be welcomed.

This a wonderful opportunity to take the next step in your career, combining skills and experience in an exciting new context. St Margaret’s Bay offers an outstanding working environment, overlooking the English Channel in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. An hour from London and at Britain’s closest point to France!

If you think this is you then please get in touch.

About Us

As we near our 50th Anniversary year in 2020, this is a particularly exciting time to join The Bay Trust.

The Bay Trust improves lives through outdoor learning and connections with nature. Our Environmental Education Charity is located across two sites between Dover and Deal. The sites include our independent outdoor residential centre, an awe-inspiring eco venue, an outstanding organically managed garden and exceptional tearoom. Both the eco venue and tea room have won national awards.

Through our environmental projects and education activities, we seek to cooperate with nature, improving both biodiversity and human engagement with the natural world.

All of this exists thanks to the combined efforts of our staff, volunteers, trustees and partner organisations.

What We Do

A wide range of groups and organisations benefit from working with us:

  • Mainstream and special schools regularly visit as part of planned programmes - these include weeklong residentials, weekly activities and drop-in sessions.

  • Adults and young people with additional needs, including the long-term unemployed and children from hard to reach families, come weekly to engage in gardening and rural skills as part of our successful volunteer programmes.

  • Individual learners from colleges and higher education take advantage of formal apprenticeships, research opportunities and internships to enhance their studies or engage in specific research.

Our activities are continually evolving and include organic land management, outdoor learning and event management.

The programmes we offer are designed to enhance self-awareness, nurture productive relationships and help manage personal or social challenges.

These challenges often arise from limited opportunities, poor health or well-being, exclusion from mainstream education or simply a transition between different stages in life. Helping people improve their lives by connecting with the outdoors and nature is at the heart of what we do.

Closing date for applications is 1 Feb

There will be two interview dates on 31st January and 07 Feb
