Job Description

The Ashley Foundation is Blackpool’s largest homelessness charity and offers accommodation with support to vulnerable single homeless people.  We are looking to set up a new supported housing scheme in Oldham and we would like appoint a full time Hostel Manager to work at our 23 bed homeless hostel in order to deliver responsive and innovative support to a wide range of individuals in a variety of challenging situations. 

As Hostel Manager you will be responsible for overseeing delivery of the day-to-day running of the Hostel, as a 24/7, 365 day operation. You will ensure appropriate staffing levels, holidays and staff rotas are met, whilst delivering exceptional customer service.

In managing the Hostel, you will oversee a high quality housekeeping service alongside project managing maintenance works. You will also be responsible for growing accommodation bookings and optimising occupancy levels and be able to monitor and report on performance.

Ideally you will have experience of working in supported accommodation or a housing management setting. Communication skills are paramount; you’ll be required to deal with a variety of people at different levels, from liaising with Local Authorities and a variety of stakeholders, to residents, to handling any issues or complaints with consistency and professionalism. You will be able to relate purposefully and communicate effectively with people in a manner which shows sensitivity and understanding of their needs. You will have the ability to manage complex and difficult situations in relation to people and demonstrate a non-judgemental approach.

Using your well-developed knowledge of local resources in Oldham and your understanding of the support needs of vulnerable people, you will play a key role in helping us deliver a first class service that coaches people to reach their goals following an agreed action plan. 

This is an exciting and challenging role, which means you need to be organised to balance several on-going tasks at the same time, whilst understanding the importance of accurate and timely recording.  You will manage your own caseload as part of a supportive team.

You will have excellent organisational skills, enjoy problem solving and be comfortable working to deadlines. You will have good ICT, communication and numeracy skills with a commitment to client involvement.
