TB Alert seeks a new Chair to succeed Paul Sommerfeld, who is stepping down after 20 years in the role. TB Alert was formed to respond to the global challenge of tuberculosis, and the lack of a British-based TB charity and advocacy agency. Our mission is to increase access to effective treatment for all. Our work tackles the barriers people face in accessing effective treatment, and focuses on the need to address social as well as medical issues in treating patients and limiting the onward transmission of the infection. We manage grant-funded programmes and, increasingly, work as a technical advisory agency. We act as advocates to ensure policies and TB services meet the needs of patients and communities effectively. We also encourage governments, donors and drug companies to increase their commitment to research to developing new tools to control the disease, in support of the World Health Organization’s End TB Strategy.
