Job Description

One in four of us will suffer from a mental health problem at some time in our lives. Do you want to use your skills and experience to play a leading role in a social enterprise which provides real, practical help?

Solent Mind is the leading mental health charity across Hampshire. We support people to achieve improved mental health and wellbeing, and provide a range of services delivered by more than 250 staff and 100 volunteers.

We provide advice and support to empower anyone experiencing a mental health problem. We campaign to improve services, raise awareness and promote understanding.

Our Head Office is located 15-16 The Avenue, Southampton and we operate from over 15 locations across Southampton, Portsmouth and Hampshire. Solent Mind is affiliated to Mind (the national mental health charity) and is an active member of the national Mind Network.

Our Vision Statement Sets Out:

We won’t give up until everyone experiencing a mental health problem gets both support and respect.

By 2020, in the communities in which we work, we want:

  1. Everyone with a mental health issue to trust Solent Mind to be on their side, and be able to support them or to find support for them
  2. Everyone supported by Solent Mind to know how they can achieve good mental wellbeing
  3. People with lived experience to share the power to design, deliver and lead mental health services

Solent Mind seeks to have among its Trustees a range of experience and expertise, including one or more of the following:

  • Lived experience of mental ill-health
  • Business, entrepreneurial and commercial skills
  • Fundraising and marketing
  • Digital Transformation
  • Clinical practice

If you feel you have a contribution to make as a Trustee / Director, particularly if you have expertise in any of the above areas or mental health policy/practice and can demonstrate a commitment to Solent Mind and its aims and values, we would be delighted to hear from you.

The role of the Board is to govern the charity; setting policy, strategy and ensuring exemplary governance and fiscal control.  The day to day management is delegated to a Chief Executive and a small team of senior managers.
