Reference: APTJun19

ADVOCATE (Trainee/Qualified IMCA/IMHA/Care Act/DoLS/RPR)

Hours: 18.5 Hours Per Week (Spread over 2.5 days Mon to Fri)

Salary Range: Unqualified £20,475, Qualified £22,603 to £24,341 pro rata per annum

Location: Hampshire

Closing Date: Fri 28 Jun 2019 (Before 5.00pm)

Interview Date: TBC Jul 2019

When people use mental health services they often feel that that they are not listened to and that their real wishes are ignored at a time when they may be at their most vulnerable.  The role of an Advocate is to work with individual clients according to their thoughts, wishes and beliefs and to ensure they are listened to and that rights are upheld.

The role provides an important safeguard for many people subject to detention in the acute hospitals across the region and with Community Treatment Orders.

As well as demonstrable experience of advocacy, you will need to have or be prepared to work towards the National Advocacy Qualification. You will also need experience working with vulnerable people, preferably with mental health needs and the ability to work with a variety of other professionals.

We’re searching for an exceptional Independent Mental Health Advocate (Forensic) to work in the medium secure units at Ravenswood Hospital.  The role will have a strong appeal to advocates wishing to specialise in forensic contexts.

This role will provide independent advocacy for adults detained under forensic sections. You’ll also raise awareness of independent advocacy, including for people from minority ethnic communities. You’ll work as part of a team of independent advocates, reporting to the manager for the service.
