Director of Development
separated child foundation

Job Description

Job Title: Director of Development

Salary: £30,000 (£50,000 pro rata) – freelance contract

Hours: 21 hours a week (working pattern to be negotiated)

Accountable to: Board of Trustees (line managed by Chair or another designated Trustee)

Background:

The Separated Child Foundation (SCF) offers emotional, social, financial and physical support to separated children and young refugees in Britain up to the age of 21. It also engages in educational activities that raise awareness of their needs and encourage positive responses to them.

The Foundation was set up in memory of Ester Gluck. Compassionate and creative, Ester was deeply committed to working for the benefit of refugees and people seeking asylum. In particular, she cared about the needs of young refugees, especially those who have become separated from their parents and close family.

Ten years on from its creation, The Separated Child Foundation is well regarded amongst refugee charities; we are now at a stage in our growth where we can no longer solely rely on the Board of Trustees for the governance and development of the organisation. We are therefore introducing the role of Director of Development to help the organisationpromote its work, grow its funding streams, and, working closely with the Board of Trustees, develop a strong business plan and secure resources to support it.

Working closely with the Board, the successful applicant will:

• Explore and evaluate the initiatives identified as part of the strategic review, and other initiatives if relevant

• Develop the business plan of the organisation and identify the funding and staffing required to support it

• Develop the fundraising strategy of the organisation

• Secure funding for existing programmes, future ones, and for the staffing required as a result of the organisational review

• Increase the profile of the organisation and the issues it seeks to address, to the media and other stakeholders, and develop a communications strategy

• Develop partnerships necessary to the implementation of the business plan

The successful candidate will have significant relevant experience at senior level, preferably in a similar setting. S/he will have thorough experience in organisational development, fundraising, and communications. S/he willhave experience insetting up strategic partnerships, as well as building on existing ones.

S/he will be directly accountable to the Foundation’s Board of Trustees which leads the overall strategy of the SCF.

This is a very exciting time to be joining the Separated Child Foundation as it continues to broaden its public profile and ability to influence on behalf of the children and young people it supports.

The Board of Trustees has committed to funding this post through reserves for two years. The subsequent need for the post will be reviewed periodically as part of the progress of the business plan, and any future related costs would be met through fundraising by the post holder.

The client is happy to conduct telephone interviews for overseas candidates.

The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
