Chair of the board of Trustees
roshni

Job Description

Roshni is a specialist refuge supporting women and children from Asian backgrounds who are fleeing domestic violence. We provide an essential service for our beneficiaries. Research tells us that women from Asian communities are highly unlikely to leave an abusive situation unless they can go to  refuge where their cultural issues will be understood and where they can communicate in their first language.

Over the last three years, Roshni has supported around 150 women to start new independent lives, free from abuse. Our refuge can accommodate up to 13 women (with children) at any one time. Our employees support each woman to access the help and advice she needs. Many of the women who use our service are traumatised; needing support from mental health services as well as practical help to source schools for their children, benefits and a new home.

Our current chair is stepping down following five years on the board and we are looking for a new chair to lead the board of trustees. The charity has been through a period of change and is at an exciting point in its development. Whilst the sustainability of our funding remains precarious - in-keeping with many charities in the current climate, we have developed a three year strategy that will see the refuge increase its occupancy and reach into the community.

This position is open only to female applicants due to a restriction in the charity’s constitution and because there is an occupational requirement for the post holder to be a female in accordance with the Equality Act 2010, Part 1, Schedule 9.

We are seeking a woman with experience of leadership in a small to medium size organisation, who is passionate about providing our beneficiaries with the best possible support available.

The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
