Job Description

We’re Rethink Mental Illness, a leading charity provider of mental health services in England. We support tens of thousands of people through our groups, services and advice and information. And we train employees, employers and members of the public on how best to support someone affected by mental illness. All of this work guides our campaigning for the rights of people with mental illness and their carers.  Working alongside the people we support, we are saving lives.

We have an excellent opportunity for a dynamic, committed and motivated HR professional to join our Senior Management Team as Associate Director for People and Organisational Development.

You will be responsible for the development and implementation of cutting edge People and OD strategies that facilitate the achievement of organisational objectives and creates a progressive organisational culture.  Reporting to the Director of Corporate Resources, you will lead the implementation of policies and programmes that deliver a first class service to the organisation which is efficient, focused, customer facing and accountable in all areas of the People and OD agenda.  This includes:

  • Embedding strong and inspirational leadership, both within the team and to the wider workforce, by demonstrating and championing the Charity’s values and behavioural framework.
  • Ensuring the department support and enable the delivery of a high performing, motivated, highly skilled and engaged workforce.
  • Design and implement plans to identify, nurture and develop talent, creating a pipeline for future leadership and service continuity. 
  • To oversee the development of our learning and development programme. Creating an environment where individuals can flourish and are developed to their fullest potential.
  • Work collaboratively with others to develop programmes which support positive cultural change, innovation and service transformation

The ideal candidate:

You’ve successfully done this before and will bring to the role significant experience in people and organisational development, ideally gained within a complex or social care environment.

The successful candidate should be CIPD qualified with substantial experience and a successful track record of leading a People team covering all areas of HR. You will have the ability to work strategically interpreting business plans into impactful initiatives as well as dealing with critical operational issues.

You’re a proven innovator, capable of building the charity’s reputation as an employer of choice.  A credible and influential communicator, what really sets you apart is your ability to deliver swiftly and to a high standard.  Your natural ability to switch between strategic and operational hands-on delivery means you can positively manage change and influence business activity effectively.
