Democracy & Policy Co-ordinator 

£20,259 to £22,137 p.a.

Reading University Students' Union (RUSU) is looking for a Democracy & Policy Co-ordinator to join the Advice & Representation Department. This is a newly created role that will work with the elected student officer team to develop and deliver the democratic functions of the organisation.

The role will work with the elected officers and the staff team to ensure RUSU student policy is implemented and campaigns are delivered. The role will co-ordinate and promote the elections, record and monitor student engagement and develop initiatives to increase engagement and participation in democratic functions.

As part of the role you will research and remain up to date with local and national policy affecting students and brief the elected student officer team and staff team accordingly.

We are looking for a friendly and approachable individual with a keen interest in working with students as well as an understanding of the key issues affecting students in higher education.

The ideal candidates should have had previous experience of:

  • Studying or working in higher education sector
  • Working or volunteering with a culturally diverse client group
  • Managing multiple tasks and a diverse workload
  • Undertaking administrative duties
  • Working effectively on own initiative

The ideal candidates should have the following knowledge or skills:

  • An understanding of democracy
  • Good knowledge of higher education system and issues affecting students
  • Understanding of the role of a Students’ Union
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Organisational and time management skills
  • Able to give written and verbal information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Able to process and understand complex information

This is a full time role working 35 hours per week, Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm.
