RCOG Invited Reviews Lay Co-Assessor
royal college of obstetricians and gynaecologists

Job Description

The Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (RCOG) works to improve health care for women, by setting standards for clinical practice, providing doctors with training and lifelong learning, and advocating for women’s health care worldwide.

The College’s Invited Reviews service supports healthcare organisations and clinical teams working in women’s health to resolve concerns about service provision; patient safety; training (including knowledge and skills); compliance with standards; clinical performance; and proposals for configuration of services.

The new lay assessor role will work alongside the clinical assessors to offer a non-clinical viewpoint, focusing particularly on the patient and public perspective when reviewing the service. This can help to bring the patient journey and overall experience of a service into the heart of a review, alongside the safety and quality elements the clinical perspective brings.

The role is on an ad-hoc basis as and when reviews are requested. Reviews usually take two to three days on-site. An individual lay assessor will not be asked to take part in more than two reviews per year. Six to eight weeks’ notice of a review will be given. Travel throughout the UK and overnight stays will be necessary.
