Job Description

Are you interested in improving access to justice for people who have experienced, or are experiencing, domestic abuse (DA)?

The Personal Support Unit (PSU) is an independent charity providing practical and emotional support to people facing the court process without lawyers. Many of our clients have experience of domestic abuse, and the PSU is recruiting for a number of roles that will enable us to enhance the support we can offer them. Applicants will have direct experience and in depth knowledge of the effects of DA and be able to understand what we can do to effectively support our clients, and how we can influence others in the justice system to reduce the trauma of the court experience.

These specialist Support Worker roles are initially one-year+ appointments (funded until end of March 2020) and will be exciting and varied, with the chance to shape the role. You will help clients face-to-face; help the organisation to strengthen its understanding of the effects of DA and how to effectively support clients; and work with partners to increase awareness of the issues surrounding DA in the court environment. You will make a real difference  to our capacity as an organisation to support people suffering domestic abuse.

We are looking to recruit two part-time posts to cover the Wales & South West region:

1) Bristol, Cardiff & Newport (based in Bristol or Cardiff)

2) Bournemouth, Exeter & Southampton (based in Bournemouth)

You will have at least 1 year's direct experience of working with victims of domestic abuse.

You will report to the Regional Manager for Wales & the South West and will be expected to travel around the region to support clients and help develop skills across the PSU’s services.

Your working pattern will be agreed with the Regional Manager, depending on demand across the region.

If you are passionate about access to justice for clients experiencing domestic abuse, and you have the required experience and specialist skills to help us develop our DA support programme, we'd love to hear from you: please send a CV, together with a covering letter clearly explaining how you fulfil the person specification and the requirements of the role. Please also make clear which role you are applying for - "Bristol, Cardiff & Newport" or "Bournemouth, Exeter & Southampton"

Closing date: 12 noon, Friday 8 February 2019

We reserve the right to withdraw this advert before the deadline date.

The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
