Job Description

Are you passionate about parents being involved and engaged in their children’s education?

We are Parentkind, a charity that supports and champions all the ways parents can participate in education and have their voices heard.  We are looking for enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our Board of Trustees at an exciting time for the Charity.

We rebranded as Parentkind in February 2018 (formerly PTA UK) and are embarking on a new strategy.  We want to be a powerful force for good and bring home and school together for the good of all children and society as a whole. Leadership from the Board and our Committees is crucial to us meeting our ambitious goals.

With 13,700 members, we are proud to be the leading membership organisation for parent teacher associations in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.  We also provide resources to support parent participation in education at school and at home so that every child can thrive and reach their potential.

We are keen to attract people from a broad and diverse range of backgrounds from England, Wales and Northern Ireland.  Whilst looking for trustees with a variety of skills and expertise, we would be particularly interested in experience in the following areas:

  • Policy and research
  • Public affairs and PR

  • Education sector leadership

  • Human resources.

Who you are:

You will be able to effectively support our Executive Team and staff in driving our strategy forward and ensuring good governance.  You’ll be able to work well as part of a team, think creatively and not be afraid to challenge how we do things so that we can achieve operational excellence.  You’ll need a good understanding of business and charities with sound, independent judgement. Ideally, you will have two years prior experience at Board or Committee level.

Key responsibilities as a Parentkind Trustee will include:

  • Preparing for and attending Board and Committee meetings (usually in central London).
  • Contributing to the development of our strategic direction and goals
  • Scrunitising and acting on financial information
  • Protecting and managing Parentkind’s assets and ensuring proper investment of our funds
  • Representing our mission and values to others.

As well as attending meetings, you may also receive training and occasionally be asked to attend events.  In total this is likely to cover eight to ten days per annum.

Becoming a Trustee at Parentkind will give you an opportunity to influence how parents can be involved and engaged with education.  You will also be able to utilise and develop your existing skillset amongst a professional and dynamic Trustee and staff team, so if you believe you have the expertise to offer Parentkind, please apply.

How to apply

Full details can be found in the application pack.

Please submit your CV and a covering letter via Parentkind’s online recruitment system.

Your covering letter should address the following key points:

  • Why you are interested in becoming a Trustee at Parentkind;

  • How you think your education, employment and experience will support your role as a Trustee.

Closing date: 10am Monday 23rd July 2018
