mothers union

Job Description

Mothers’ Union seeks two new Board Members to join our Trading Company, Mue Ltd Trustee Board

Mothers’ Union Enterprises LTD (MUe) is the trading arm of Mothers’ Union and is seeking to appoint two non-Executive Board members, with particular expertise in conference facilities management or e-commerce. The Charity is going through an exciting period of transformation, as it looks back to the principles upon which it was founded, to refresh ways of working, and set the future direction.  You will have the opportunity to play a critical guiding and advising role as Mothers’ Union develops a strategy for the development and future of Mother’s Union in one of these areas.

MUe was established as the wholly owned trading subsidiary of Mothers’ Union in 1993, to generate funds for the Charity. It has historically run commercial operations for Conferences, Publications, a Gift Shop, sales of products through a network of local member-representatives, and more recently on-line sales. Its turnover in 2017 was just over £1m.

Mothers’ Union is a  membership society  with over 4 million members in 83 countries worldwide, who put their faith into action by working as volunteers in their communities, promoting healthy communities through healthy relationships, the empowerment of women and supporting families in need. In 2017, we made a difference to over 750,000 people worldwide.

The central charity is governed by Royal Charter. Our Board Members are elected by the membership and meet three times a year as well as participate in occasional calls and email communication.

The e-commerce appointment calls for an individual with significant experience gained in the e-commerce/digital retail environment. For the conference facilities appointment, you will have the opportunity to play a critical guiding and advising role as the company develops a strategy for its conference facilities business and experience of conference facilities.

For both roles, the ideal person would also have:

  • Prior experience as a Charity Trustee
  • Appreciation of a member-led membership organisation
  • Be a practising Christian (must be empathetic and comfortable in working within a Christian environment)
  • Experience of organisational renewal/ change management and planning
  • Ability to identify creative solutions with limited resource availability

These roles are unpaid but reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed.
