Job Description

Mental Health First Aid England (MHFA) England, a community interest company (CIC) that delivers internationally recognised mental health training, is seeking three new non-executive directors to join its current Board. This is a unique opportunity to join the company during a period of significant growth. 

The new non-executive directors will be experienced in operating at Board level and will provide guidance and governance to this innovative and fast moving organisation, led by a team of five experienced and committed executive directors, one existing non-executive director and the current Chair of the Board.

Since establishing as a CIC, MHFA England has trained over 230,000 of the English population is MHFA skills, with a goal of ultimately training one in ten of the population. It is also part of a global community of 22 countries, all delivering MHFA training within their respective populations. 

The successful candidates will have the required business and industry acumen to ensure that MHFA England continues to grow in a sustainable way, helping it to respond flexibly to the current high demand for mental health training, whilst at the same time investing in the strategic forward planning required to ensure long term commercial stability.  The successful candidates will also be expected to challenge the executive team at a strategic level, by offering an external perspective and previous/current experience of working with other types and sizes of organisation. 

The new non-executive directors will bring expert business insight, understanding and experience to the Board, in particular focusing on the areas of; People Strategy/Organisational Development and Diversity and Inclusion; Business Development/Digital Marketing; IT and Finance.

As well as being responsible for overseeing the development of the strategic direction for MHFA England the non-executive directors will provide visible leadership, including representing MHFA England at collaboration and network events where they will demonstrate their astute understanding of the political, economic and cultural environment in which the organisation is operating.

It is expected that the post will require commitment in the region of  a day per month of each non-executives director’s time, including attendance at the quarterly board meeting and sub committees. The non-executive director positions are voluntary roles, with out of pocket expenses such as travel and accommodation reimbursed in full.
