Job Description

The candidate: We are seeking a maternity cover Media Relations Manager. You will develop and implement Meningitis Research Foundation’s (MRF’s) media plans at UK, Ireland and global levels. This role will be a key part of the advocacy and communications team. The role focuses on raising awareness of the charity and our work with the public, key stakeholders and media. The person will be part of a team of four covering all aspects of communications and advocacy including press, brand, digital, events and publication functions. The post holder will be expected to be available for media enquiries outside normal office hours. 

Context: We need meningitis to be prioritised globally, as well as maintaining awareness in the UK. The ideal candidate will have a passion for integrated media relations. This means supporting and promoting compelling awareness campaigns that seek to influence opinion and decisions, as well as excelling at digital, PR, press and media. You will be expected to have good existing media networks and be comfortable working within a UK and International context.  You should be able to demonstrate a clear track record for rapid-response media relations management and handling of sensitive content with tact and care.

Responsibilities:

  • Build and manage relations with international, national and local media and use those contacts to generate publicity and exposure for MRF’s objectives and policy positions
  • Write and promote press releases
  • Manage all aspects of integrated media management across print, digital and social media channels
  • Manage an effective rapid response media process to maximise use of external opportunities.
  • Act as the key day-to-day media contact in support of the Director of Communications, Advocacy and Support
  • Give prompt and effective media enquiries and reports about meningitis, including out of hours.
  • Support all aspects of fundraising to ensure maximum exposure and promotion of future and past activity
  • Monitor media coverage, analyse activity and report on effectiveness of our work in raising awareness and our profile
  • Input to and lead on implementation of key aspects of awareness campaign strategy and activity
  • Work across all teams and offices to ensure MRF’s messages are appropriately targeted and tailored to regional and country dynamics
