Job Description

We are looking to appoint a co-opted trustee, who will ideally take on the role of our Honorary Treasurer. We are especially keen to receive applications from professionals who have experience in the financial or legal sectors, or who have a strong business background, with empathy and understanding of issues facing a diverse student population. We would also welcome applications from people who belong to groups which are under-represented on Boards.

Co-opted Trustees are professionals appointed for their skills and experience and can serve up to two four-year terms.

There are four Co-opted Trustees who work alongside our four elected Sabbatical Officers and four Student Trustees. This is a voluntary role however reasonable expenses may be paid.

The Board meets five to six times per year, mainly at our Liverpool building on the University of Liverpool campus however we have one residential away day in July. The successful Trustee would also be expected to join a committee which will meet four times per year.

The Board of Trustees is responsible for the overall governance, monitoring and strategic direction of the charity. Our Honorary Treasurer advises the Chair of the Board of Trustees on financial matters and Chairs our Resources & Audit Committee. It is important to note that oversight of the Guild comes from the Board of Trustees who delegate the operational responsibilities of the organisation to our dedicated staff team and our professional advisors. The Honorary Treasurer is therefore not responsible for producing or auditing our accounts however we would like a trustee with financial skills to complement the skills already on the Board. Recent experience of the further or higher education sector is useful but not essential.

Thank you for your interest, for more information on this role please see the application pack or our website.
