Job Description

JUSTICE is looking for a Lawyer, to cover twelve months maternity leave, with the possibility of a permanent role at the end of the maternity cover. This provides an exciting opportunity for a practising lawyer with a strong research background or academic lawyers keen to engage in high-level policy and law reform work.  We are looking for a lawyer mainly interested in administrative justice, as well as in cross-cutting issues affecting the functioning of the justice system (our recent cross-cutting projects have included work on judicial diversity, the way courts are configured and combatting digital exclusion as courts go online).

The successful candidate will be appointed to a full-time post on a fixed term one year basis with the possibility of a permanent role at the end of the maternity cover and will be based at our London office. Ideally the candidate would be able to start in mid-September to allow for an overlap with the current Lawyer. Our staff enjoy flexible working conditions, 27 days annual leave, plus the week between Christmas and the New Year, 8% employer pension contribution and access to an Employee Assistance Programme.

We would like to a recruit bright, motivated person who is passionate about system change in the promotion of access to justice and in the fair administration of justice. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and as part of a team. With excellent interpersonal skills, they will be able to work closely with JUSTICE members, who include senior figures in the legal profession. The post holder will work with our Legal Director to develop our administrative justice work streams and assist on system-wide proposals for change. Current administrative justice work that we would be seeking assistance with during the maternity cover includes reforming the immigration and asylum appeal system and challenging school exclusions.

To apply, please send the completed application form and equality and diversity form with a covering letter to the email provided in the Job Description. CVs will not be considered.

The deadline for applications is midday on Tuesday 15th May. Interviews will be held on Wednesday 22nd May. Candidates will be required to complete a test as part of the interview process.
