Job Description

Great Yarmouth Community Trust is an independent registered charity that works across the borough and neighbouring areas to improve the life chances of children, adults and their families who are trapped by poverty in cycles of poor health, fragile relationships, social isolation, limiting skills and few opportunities to change their lives for good. We offer activities that wrap around individuals and families to provide education, build networks of support, enable social action and open up access to new opportunities. We want every resident in Great Yarmouth, whatever their background or current situation, to have the chance to participate in their community and enjoy life.

The Board of Trustees provide direction, support and challenge to the senior management of the charity, ensuring that we: make a difference to as many people as possible; are ambitious and innovative; and remaining legally compliant. The management, planning and delivery of the work of the charity is delegated wholly to the Senior Management Team and staff.

We are looking for individuals who are passionate about the difference we want to make and have knowledge or experience that will help us make sound decisions in the best interests of local people.

We want to talk to everyone who is interested!

If you have particular knowledge, skills or experience of secondary education, mental health, child welfare services, place-based community development, finance, HR or marketing which would help you hold the Senior Management Team to account this would help strengthen our work. We are also interested in improving the diversity of the Board ensuring we are representative of our community.

The Trustees meet together 7 times a year, currently during the daytime, including an away day. Trustees may be asked to participate in discussions or reviews between meetings. The role is not paid, but expenses are reimbursed. Trustees’ liability is limited and insurance is in place to protect them.

It is not necessary to have previous Board experience as training will be provided. If you are wanting to take a first step to develop wider Board level or governance experience then this opportunity may be for you.
