Job Description

Giveacar is an exciting venture that pioneered the idea of charitable car donation in the UK.

Our aim is to raise money for good causes by collecting old, unwanted cars, scrapping or selling them at auction, and giving the proceeds to the charity of the owner's choice.

We are now looking for a new General Manager to take the business forward.

Strong management skills

Giveacar was founded by a graduate back in 2010 and a large part of the company’s success is down to the policy of employing passionate and impact-oriented people.  You will have an excellent academic record, several years post-grad/or, relevant experience and strong management skills.

Our core business is charitable donations which must be accurately processed, so you will be comfortable with figures, spreadsheets and data analysis.

You will be a good negotiator, capable of maintaining relationships with existing contractors to get the best deals for our charity partners.  A strong collaborator who empowers the team to do and be their best within their roles.

You will also be literate: we write articles, web content, blogs and press releases on a regular basis.

You will probably have some marketing experience and of course, you will also be resourceful and imaginative.  Any experience of running a website (wordpress) and cloud-based CRM’s (salesforce) is a bonus.

Above all, you will love the idea of helping a social business to grow and deliver much-needed financial help to hard-pressed charities.

Strong cultural focus

Championing an open and transparent culture you will foster effective management standards focused on nurturing employee engagement, promoting well-being and positive working relationships. Staff will feel supported and have a say in the way that they do their work. In developing the team and business, you will encourage employee involvement and ensure that any changes are managed and effectively communicated.

Over £2.8 million raised for 1,700 charities

Launched nine years ago, Giveacar is not a start-up but a proven business model.  We are self-sufficient with no external funding.  Based in Fulham, Central London, we are a small business with four staff, but we operate nationwide.  Our ambitious growth plan to become a national brand by 2020 is at the forefront of Giveacar’s strategic plan and requires a General Manager with vision and drive.

A non-profit with a great reputation

Giveacar has a dynamic marketing and PR programme and has generated coverage in the BBC, all the major national press and local media throughout the UK.  The company has either won or reached the shortlist for a number of awards including the Observer Ethical Award, the BBC World Challenge Award, London Business Award, Finance for the Future Award, Sustainable City Award and Third Sector Excellence Award.

We believe that this is a rare opportunity to join a dynamic operation which already has a high profile.  You will have the support of the company’s directors and the current team but you will be expected to solve problems as they arise and oversee a wide range of business disciplines, from marketing and sales to negotiation with suppliers, website management, PR and financial control all of which are underpinned by three existing strategic objectives: Sustainable Growth, A Great Service Provider and A Great Place to Work. You will deal with two interesting sectors that are not often brought together – the charity sector and the used car market. Giveacar is not an ordinary opportunity and it won’t appeal to ordinary people.  If you’re looking for something special, a real challenge and the chance to make a difference, contact us.

Full or Part-Time

We are looking for a full-time manager but we are also open to the idea of sharing these responsibilities between two part-timers.  Although we are a non-profit operation and can’t offer you a City salary, we do recognise the importance of paying a competitive salary to attract the right person. We have a very open and transparent culture, where development and autonomy are encouraged, and you will also have the opportunity for a performance related bonus based on the company’s surplus amount at the end of each financial year.

Interested?  We look forward to hearing from you.  Contact, in strictest confidence, Alan Chance via the email address provided.
