Job Description

For Jimmy exists to build the safest of communities for young people to grow up in.  We do this through working directly with young people, schools and businesses; driving change across three key areas 1) Inspiring individual responsibility 2) Connecting communities and 3) turning existing, shops, buildings and businesses into safe places for young people to turn to.

The role is demanding but rewarding We are looking for an exceptional candidate who has substantive experience of charity governance and fundraising, working with and safeguarding young people and, above all, leadership.

The role is full time but we will consider part time for the right candidate

The principle requirements are

Strategy and Governance

  • Work closely with our Founders Barry and Margaret Mizen MBEs, to ensure their vision of a peaceful and safer world for our young people is constantly developed
  • Work in partnership with the Board of Trustees to identify and implement strategies for the development of the charity to achieve its vision and long term objectives.
  • Lead and motivate the team to follow the vision and strategic aims, including review of progress against agreed objectives
  • Work closely with the charities’ key Committees to ensure appropriate safeguards are identified and risks are identified and managed and opportunities taken
  • Ensure appropriate presentation and timely reporting on the progress of the organisation and on all matters relevant to the discharge of the Board’s responsibilities, including policy proposals for Board discussion and decision.

Financial growth and sustainability

  • Support the development of the fundraising function of the charity, specifically Trusts and Foundations, community and events and trading income.
  • Identify and develop other sources of funds, specifically corporate partnerships, regular giving and major donor.
  • Build and maintain effective systems to manage and grow the charities’ supporter base.

Promotion of the charity

  • Maintain effective networks with principle supporters and stakeholders both locally and nationally.
  • Seek opportunities to promote the charity and its vision in the media, at events or through our own networks
  • Represent the charity in the press and public appearances when required.

Leadership / Delivery

  • Leading the Senior Management Team ensure that the Charity deliverers at a strategic, management and day to day level
  • Provide guidance, challenge and review for the SMT
  • Monitor and work to improve all areas of the Charity’s performance
  • Ensure that all administrative, financial and governance requirements are delivered 

The person

We are seeking an exceptional individual who will be of graduate calibre, have a high level of financial and fundraising understanding and be able to articulate the aims of For Jimmy verbally and in writing to a cross section of audiences.

Direct experience is of course an advantage but above all we are seeking a proven senior leader of teams larger than 5 with significant budgetary control and experience, an ability to work in partnership with the Mizen family, volunteers, Trustees, employees and external partners.

This role will give the successful candidate the opportunity increase our work deepening our impact and improving the safeguarding of young people in Lewisham and beyond.
