Part-Time Finance Officer
Purpose of the post
We are going through an exciting period of growth and have ambitious plans to diversify in how we offer to reach more disadvantaged young people. To support us in our efforts, we are seeking to appoint a part-time finance officer.
Reporting to the CEO, the successful candidate will be a smart finance professional with commercial awareness.
This is an exciting position as you will be responsible for all aspects of finance, covering both financial and management accounting. You will work with the different budget holders to ensure the charity can achieve its mission in the most effective and efficient way possible; as well as be responsible for day-to-day bookkeeping, monthly payroll, annual statutory accounts...
Main responsibilities
- Process the day to day book-keeping, monthly payroll and weekly payment processing.
- Work with each programme manager and support on the grant application and grant tracking to ensure appropriate budget forecasting and central cost recovery, as well as regular tracking and appropriate allocation of expenditures to projects.
- Management of all financial reporting to Internal and External stakeholders and presenting the management reports to the Finance Committee and Board of Trustees.
- Preparation of the full accounts process covering Bookkeeping, Management Reporting and Annual Financial Statements for review by an independent examiner.
- Liaising with the independent examiners at the year-end.
- Review and update financial control policies as required
Approximately one-third of the role will be a day to day bookkeeping, 1/3 will be working with the programme managers on expenditures tracking and grant management and the remaining 1/3 will be on financial reporting.
General responsibilities
- To assist in the delivery of wider activities of the charity when required and undertake other duties as reasonably requested by the Chief Executive or Head of Programmes and to work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers.
- To adhere to the organisation’s policies and Code of Conduct, with particular attention being paid to the responsibilities all staff have towards safeguarding and child protection.
Person Specification
Knowledge
- Part-qualified or QBE with a minimum of 3 years of experience
- Xero and Cloud accounting tools (desirable).
- Knowledge of SORP FRS "102" (desirable)
Experience
- Experience of working within the charity sector or familiar with fund accounting.
- Experience of managing grant finances and contract compliance.
- Experience of budgeting and managing resources.
- Preferred experience with year-end accounts procedures and producing the annual report.
- Management reporting, Financial Planning and Analysis and Cash Flow forecasting.
Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient use of Excel
- Strong interpersonal skills

Salary Range: £30,000 to £37,000 pro rata 21 hours a week
