External Adviser to the Community Grants Committee
dunhill medical trust

Job Description

Use your skills to influence how we support community-based services for older people

The Dunhill Medical Trust not only funds some of the very best of the UK’s academic and clinical research into understanding the mechanisms of ageing and treating age-related diseases and frailty; it also supports community-based organisations which are working to enhance the lives of those who need extra support in later life.

The Board of Trustees has established two Committees to assist it in its grant-giving activities: one specialising in assessing and awarding academic and clinical research funding, the other specialising in making grant awards to community-based organisations.

The Community Grants Committee is newly established and the Trustees wish to appoint up to three external members who have recent/current experience in effective grant-giving to smaller charities.  In addition to this experience, applications from people who have a demonstrable interest in the current challenges in the fields of ageing and older people and the potential for change and innovation to meet them – both in terms of service delivery and content and in their funding - would be particularly welcome.

The Committee, which provides recommendations to the Board of Trustees, will meet three times per year in central London, but applications are encouraged from all parts of the UK.

Although the role is unpaid, reasonable expenses will be reimbursed.

Note: The Trust’s activities are funded entirely by a capital endowment.
