Job Description

Overall Purpose of role

Working closely with the Head of Marketing and Communications and the Digital Communications Officer, the successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the charity’s day to day marketing, communications and public relations activity across a range of its programmes. This will include generating innovative content and supporting the management of the charity’s websites with news, events and downloadable content for users.

You will assist the Head of Marketing and Communications in delivering the marketing plans for the charity and help our teams meet any communications targets set by their funders. A significant part of this role will include devising campaigns to support the charity to promote its Inspiring Governance recruitment service, designed to encourage more volunteers to become governors from a wide range of employers. It will also involve better engaging schools and colleges with the recruitment service, helping them secure skilled governors

Key accountabilities

  • Devise and draft PR announcements and news stories on a regular basis and work effectively with media to get them placed
  • Support the Head of Marketing (and the wider Inspiring Governance team) to devise and lead PR campaigns to encourage employers and volunteers to support school governance
  • Help devise an overarching communications plan for Inspiring Governance and to pro-actively drive and track progress against it
  • Help develop and maintain a portfolio of branded assets promoting our services and ensure team members have collateral when and where they need it.
  • Manage daily updates on our websites – adding innovative news items, events, downloadable resources
  • Input into the creation of a sustainable social media strategy for the charity
  • Support the Head of Marketing to run marketing campaigns across our programmes.
  • Create engaging social media posts using graphics, film and photography
  • Use analytics to report on results of digital campaigns.
  • Undertake media monitoring, competitor monitoring and maintain press cutting folders and archive of all media coverage.
  • Deal with day to day, ad hoc queries and be a contact person for communications and press queries
  • Work with colleagues within the charity and with the charity’s delivery partners to support their marketing needs. This will include regular partner-working with counterparts at the National Governance Association

Other

  • Represent the Charity at Stakeholder events
  • Assist with the organising of external functions and ad hoc charity wide projects

Skills/ Knowledge/ Expertise

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent e.g. CMI/CAM Cert/Dip
  • Good level of education, demonstrating capability in producing written content to a high quality. Comfort and confidence in working with data.
  • Excellent knowledge of Windows and Apple Mac OS
  • Minimum 1-year experience in a marketing and communications/ public relations role and understanding of branding
  • Excellent IT skills, including using Content Management Systems e.g. WordPress
  • Understanding of search engine optimisation, email marketing systems and social media tools e.g. Mailchimp, Hootsuite, Campaign Monitor
  • Proven ability to effectively write, edit and copy for different audiences
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Proven ability in using videos and infographics including technical capability
  • An articulate and confident communicator

Desirable

  • Ability to analyse data
  • Strong interpersonal, planning, negotiating, time management, administrative and organisational skills
  • Good presentation skills
  • Technical capability in using digital media equipment
  • Photography and editing skills (or a willingness to be trained up on these)
  • Familiarity of working in the not for profit sector
  • Experience in using Salesforce or equivalent customer relationship management tools
