Job Description

Non-Executive Director recruitment - South East Wales Education Achievement Service

The Education Achievement Service (EAS) provides school improvement services on behalf of the five local authorities in South East Wales. Our vision is to ensure that there is excellent leadership and provision in schools and settings across the region to inspire and motivate all our young people to be the best they can be. We work in partnership with a wide range of school leaders to ensure that our schools and settings are well led and that they provide the best possible climate for excellence in teaching and learning.

We’re an ambitious organisation and are now looking for new people to join our board and help us to achieve our aims. We are particularly looking for people from senior leadership backgrounds who can provide strategic insight and challenge our thinking in a constructive way. An educational background would be useful but not essential and we are seeking experience in the areas of finance, HR and policy contexts.

We’re offering a full induction programme and ongoing training in all aspects of governance as well as mentoring, guidance and feedback from our experienced Chair. The post is unremunerated (we will pay directly incurred travel expenses) and expectations are that you’ll take an ongoing interest in our work, prepare for and attend board meetings and attend ad hoc meetings and training as arranged.

Board meetings take place quarterly and so the time commitment required is unlikely to be more than six days per year.

The term will be for one year in the first instance and then extended for a further two years, subject to performance. We’re keen to ensure that we have a good balance of skills on the board and so appointments will be made to enhance the attributes that we have and will not necessarily be down to personal ability.

Closing Date:  12 noon on Friday 22nd February 2019

You are welcome to submit your application in English or in Welsh. Each application will be treated equally.

The Education Achievement Service is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people. Applicants must be willing to undergo child protection screening appropriate to the post, including checks with past employers and the Disclosure and Barring Service.

The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
