Job Description

Domestic Abuse Practitioner (DAP) (£21,500 p.a.) 37.5hrs/wk based in South Essex (Covering Basildon, Brentwood, Castlepoint & Rochford) - Two roles available - Full time permanent role and a fixed term maternity cover ending on 31 March 2018.

Safer Places is an independent charity which provides a comprehensive range of services to adults and children affected by domestic and sexual abuse and family conflict who live in Essex and Hertfordshire. The people who use our services are at the heart of our organisation and we aim to work to enable them to overcome the impact of their experience and to build a brighter and safe future for themselves and their children.

Main Responsibilities:

  • The role requires the applicant to be able to work as part of a team in the given locality providing specialist domestic abuse support to women, men and their children living in the locality, whether living in Safer Places accommodation or other accommodation in the community.
  • To accept referrals allocated by the service manager or senior DAP and commence an initial need and risk assessment with the client within the specified timescales initiating plans to manage and address risks, needs and immediate safety.
  • Managing own case load, planning and delivery of support to clients and their children on the basis of risk and need

Based in North & South Essex covering Shift Patterns: 8:00 to 20:00 Monday to Friday including Bank/Public Holidays.

Experience:

  • Working with vulnerable people.
  • Managing a caseload
  • Working within a multi-agency and legislative framework.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Have strong crisis management skills and the ability to deal with stressful and difficult situations.
  • Understand Safeguarding and child protection issues, and the legal responsibilities surrounding these issues.
  • Have a good understanding of domestic abuse including the impact of domestic abuse on victims and their children.

Qualifications:

  • Hold a CAADA IDVA training certificate, working towards or hold Level 3 Skills for Justice NVQ, or demonstrable equivalent experience and the ability and commitment to achieve qualification within 6 months of appointment.

  • Be compassionate and empathetic with your client’s situation.
  • Show initiative and be proactive when managing you caseload and interacting with your clients and agencies you’re working with.

Essential:

  • Car driver with access to a vehicle
  • Ability to work outside the normal office hours to cover on call on a rota basis
