Job Description

Development Board Members

Birmingham B5 4TB

We are currently seeking volunteer members to join our Development Board.

Birmingham Hippodrome is a thriving, well-supported charity – a creative enterprise with ambitious goals to present the best international performing arts, increase community engagement, and drive transformative change in creative learning. We receive no revenue subsidy, so rely on our share of box office and on earnings from hospitality and catering, venue hire, and from fundraising.

We invest our surpluses in presenting unforgettable performances from across the world. We regularly work with public and private funders to deliver outstanding projects that make a real difference, and ensure that everyone feels welcome in our theatre.  And we have a long-term plan to secure an independent and flourishing future for our historic building and our business.

We depend on our volunteer Board Members to support our fundraising, advocacy and business development to help us grow our impact and extend our reach.  We’re looking particularly for like-minded supporters who have skills and experience across a range of areas including:

  • Philanthropy and fundraising,
  • Events and hospitality business
  • Digital creation and distribution
  • Access and education

Members do not need to be employed and we are happy to hear from retired applicants.  We are also eager to improve representation at board level from ethnic minorities, and from younger people; and we would welcome interest from individuals with wider national and international connections.

The Board Meets four times a year and supports the Fundraising and Business Development teams throughout the year.  The Chair of the Development Board, Martin Guest, is a serving trustee of the Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre Trust.
