Job Description

Are you ready to make a difference?

Our Organisation

Deafblind UK works with and for people who are deafblind and those with varying degrees of sight and hearing loss.  We exist to support and enable people who are deafblind to live the life they choose. Our vision is a society where people with vision and hearing loss can live a full life.

Informed by our members, we work with people who are Deafblind, making connections and delivering quality support which helps build confidence, independence and increased control.

The Role of Trustee

Our Trustees are critical in steering our organisation to achieve these aims. As a growing national charity heading towards our 100th anniversary we are currently seeking new Trustees to join our board and be part of that growth. This is an especially exciting time to join us, leading our governance, as we develop and further embed our national footprint in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

With a new Chief Executive in post we have ambitious plans to grow and develop our reach. We believe that a high performing organisation with passionate people at the heart of what we do will achieve this.

We are looking for trustees who maybe deafblind or sighted hearing and who will each bring along critical skill sets, professional or personal experience, views and ideas. This will  inspire and challenge a growing team of approximately 450 colleagues and volunteers all working towards a better future for Deafblind people, whilst providing the organisation with a sound governance structure.

Our Board consists of highly experienced, business focused Trustees to meet many of our charity needs. The skills, experience and backgrounds of applicants we are now seeking to compliment our existing board are within Finance, Treasury or Accountancy specialisms.

Expectations of Attendance

Our Trustees will be required for 4 board meetings and 4 committee meetings per year lasting approx 2 hours usually 11am - 1pm, there will also be expected reading timeDial in is on occasions available if unable to attend in person.

Supporting our Trustees

You may not have been a Trustee before. If that is the case we support all our Trustees to develop with a full induction programme and bespoke training for all our trustees and ongoing support. In return we hope that you will find being a Charity Trustee rewarding and fulfilling whilst developing your skills and, dependant on the stage of your career or personal development, further your career prospects at the same time.

To Apply

If this is an opportunity that you feel you have the skills, experience, passion and commitment for, and able to commit to the above attendance expectations per year we would like to hear from you.
