Job Description

Creative & Cultural Skills is recruiting for a Chair, new Trustees and a Company Secretary. 

We would like to appoint a Chair and Trustees with a range of skills and senior business experience. We are particularly keen to recruit individuals from the arts and cultural sectors including craft, cultural heritage, museums and libraries, design, performing arts, music, literature and the visual arts.  Senior colleagues based in organisations paying the apprenticeship levy would be desirable, as are specialist freelancers and individuals with a comprehensive understanding of the sector’s ecology and mixed economy operating models both subsidised and commercial.

Chair

We are now looking for an exceptional strategic leader to undertake this key role and who can help drive the Charity forward.

The Chair will be responsible for leading the board and making sure it meets standards in line with the charity governance code, monitoring and mitigating against corporate risks and evaluating the board’s performance in clear and constructive ways.

The Chair will support and oversee the performance of the CEO and encourage positive working relationships between the board and Creative & Cultural Skills’ CEO and senior management team.  The Chair will act as a key spokesperson and figurehead for the organisation.

Trusteeship

Creative & Cultural Skills would like to bring on board trustees with a range of skills and senior business experience, particularly from the aforementioned sector footprint.

Trustees are expected to provide wise counsel and constructive challenge to the Chief Executive and senior management team, demonstrating mutual respect and cooperation.

We are keen to recruit highly motivated individuals and gain board expertise in the areas of Finance; Marketing, Communications and PR; Charity fundraising; the digital industries, as well as those with a comprehensive understanding of the social, moral and economic importance of diversifying the sector’s workforce and the challenges associated with achieving this.

We are at a unique moment in the company’s short history as we are refreshing our UK-wide programme, campaigns and activities under a new Chief Executive.

Company Secretary

We are looking for an organised and methodical individual to provide governance support and advice to the Trustees and senior management team.

The Company Secretary will ensure that:

  • meetings and the AGM are run in accordance with the constitution, Companies House and Charity Commission requirements.
  • Ensure voting procedures are followed correctly.
  • Ensure that committee meetings including decisions and actions are adequately minuted.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date membership records are maintained in accordance with the constitution, Companies House and Charity Commission requirements.
  • Ensure that the annual return to Companies House and the Charity Commission are made on time.
