Job Description

Could you be central to our success in recruiting and retaining the volunteers we need to deliver our service objectives?

Job Purpose

Coventry Independent Advice Service is a registered charity (number 1015216).  We aim to empower Coventry residents, and reduce inequality and poverty, through the provision of high-quality advice, information and support. Our advice is mainly delivered ‘where people are’, in their own communities, from a mix of outreach venues across the city.

The Volunteer Coordinator will be central to our success in recruiting and retaining the volunteers we need to deliver our objectives.

Please note that this post is initially funded for three years thanks to a generous grant from The Henry Smith Charity.

You will recruit, train, support and manage volunteers in a variety of roles across the organisation.  They will seek to recruit volunteers who reflect the diversity of the community.  This will include volunteers who can support clients from the BAME community, where English is not their first language, and volunteers with experience of disability, including mental and physical health issues.

You will also develop relationships with local businesses, community groups and other stakeholders to add value to our organisation and to create additional opportunities for volunteering and support.

Is this the job for me?

  • Experience of leading, motivating and effectively managing others
  • Experience of designing and delivering training
  • An understanding of and commitment to equality and the positive value of diversity

  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to motivate and encourage others
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office software
  • A ‘can-do’ attitude in all the work you deliver
  • An ability to work collaboratively
  • An ability to understand, and work to actively implement, organisational policies, particularly around equality and diversity, health and safety, safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection.
