Job Description

Days: Monday to Friday

Hours: 9.30 - 5.30

The British Scoliosis Research Foundation (BSRF) is the only charity that exists solely to promote research into the treatment of scoliosis in the UK.

The Scoliosis Association (SAUK) is the only UK wide patient support organisation for people with scoliosis and their families. Our aim is to provide advice, support, and information to people  affected by scoliosis and their families and raise awareness of scoliosis among health professionals and the general public.

As communications officer you will be work directly for both affiliated charities. 

SAUK

  1. Work with the National Director to develop and oversee the communications processes and strategy to assist in the achievement of organisational objectives
  2. To develop and deliver our regular publications using in house design skills. To produce, and circulate regular publications (annual report, twice yearly magazine, mailings)
  3. In accordance with the Information Standard, to assist in managing the renewal of existing publications and health information (information leaflets, booklets, advice sheets, membership packs)
  4. To research and report on the requirement for new publications that would benefit and support the charity
  5. To source and manage the writing and production of new publications
  6. To work with the National Director on activities and promotion for International Scoliosis Awareness Day
  7. To work with the administrator and develop and manage the network of Regional Representatives
  8. To attend medical conferences and undertake training on the Information Standard and the writing and production of health information as required

BSRF

  1. To assist with the organisation of all meetings hosted or attended, including the biennial International Phillip Zorab Symposium
  2. To work with the National Director to attract corporate sponsors and meet sponsorship targets for the Zorab Symposium
  3. To prepare materials (presentations, flyers, ads, sponsorship pack etc.) for the promotion of the Zorab Symposium to potential sponsor and delegates
  4. To assist with the promotion of BSRF to the key opinion leaders in the field of scoliosis at the main centres of excellence.
  5. To promote the BSRF grant rounds  and provide post award communication and support to grant holders
  6. Develop and deliver the annual review using in house design skills. To write and manage production/circulation of any BSRF publications

SAUK/BSRF

  1. To be responsible for promoting/ increasing the profile of the organisations using various media
  2. To work with the team, and update all SAUK and BSRF digital media, including the websites and social media networks. Work with the administrator to produce weekly news items and source and write quality articles for the website and magazine
  3. Support  the National Director with raising awareness of the joint fundraising arm Scoliosis Campaign Fund and produce fundraising/promotional materials
