Chairperson & Trustees
age uk islington

Job Description

Age UK Islington is Recruiting

Age UK Islington was established in 1963 to promote the well-being of local older people. In 2015, our services extended to include anyone aged over 16.  We are dedicated to helping any adult in Islington make the most of their life.

Over the last 5 years we have strengthened our role as a key strategic partner to the local authority and CCG, as they work to develop sustainable health and wellbeing services for the broader population of the borough. Willingness to change, a reputation for innovation, a reorientation towards prevention-based service models, and a reliable track record in delivery, means we have both the right products, and, the right outlook and capabilities to contribute as an equal partner in local developments. This has led in turn to financial growth and stability. Annual revenue has doubled to around £1.7M, with 85% of this secured via long term 3-5 year service contracts.

With this foundation in place the charity is now poised for new opportunities and the potential for further growth is high.  Effective leadership and governance will be key.  We are currently recruiting for a new Chairperson (the current incumbent is stepping down at the end of her term) and Trustees to join our friendly Board of eight Trustees.

Chairperson

The new Chair should live or work in, or adjacent to, Islington. This is a fantastic opportunity to join an experienced Board and a forward thinking and innovative organisation with a great track record.  The Chair should have an understanding of the strategy and disciplines needed to deliver a wide range of services to adults and older adults.  A key role is to ensure that the charity has robust governance and management to meet the expectations of funders, our beneficiaries and regulators.

The following skills/experience would be particularly valuable:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the health and social care sector e.g. challenges and opportunities, NHS commissioning
  • Outstanding communication skills and the ability to liaise with external organisations
  • Charity governance

The Board meets six times a year and the average time commitment is 2/3 days per month.

Trustees

The main function of the Trustees is to oversee the management and business direction of the charity.  We are particularly keen to hear from people with skills and experience of:

  • The health sector and the workings of statutory commissioning
  • The issues facing adults and older people

If you want to play a leading part in shaping older peoples’ services in Islington, then we would be delighted to hear from you.

Age UK Islington is committed to equality and strongly values diversity.

Application is by CV and a supporting letter which should indicate why you are interested in applying for the role and how you meet the role requirements.

The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
