Children's Hospice South West (CHSW) is celebrating a very special milestone this year; it is 25 years since the founding of the charity by Eddie Farwell and his late wife, Jill.

During this time, the charity has grown significantly and, as a result, has been able to provide holistic family centred care and support, through its 3 hospices, to hundreds of children with life-limited conditions and their families. Our purpose is to make the most of short and precious lives and to put children and families at the center of all we do.

We are now planning how we meet the demands and opportunities that will be posed by the next 25 years. This will include the need to appoint a new Chair of Trustees, as after an outstanding 25 years, our founding Chair of the Board of Trustees Trevor Lloyd, will be retiring at the beginning of 2017.

The Chair of Trustees will lead the charity, help set the vision and, with the support of the Board and the Senior Management Team, be responsible for the governance and strategic direction of the charity.

Whilst this is a voluntary role, it is both challenging and rewarding, and we are looking for a special person to help us deliver our vision for the future.  This will require someone with strong leadership and teamwork skills, who can inspire, lead and drive a highly motivated and talented Board and Senior Management Team.

The time commitment is around 30 days a year including six Board meetings, other sub-groups and meetings, individual involvement, reading and travelling time.  This will involve attending meetings throughout the South West (and sometime further), for which appropriate expenses will be paid.
