Trustee
butchers and drovers charitable institution (bdci)

Job Description

Forward-thinking trustee required to help our colleagues in need ‘Lean on Us’.

Since 1828, the Meat Industry charity, Butchers and Drovers Charitable Institution (BDCI), has remained focused on delivering practical financial help, precisely when it is most needed, to colleagues who have fallen on hard times.

In times of crisis, financial hardship, illness or old age, we’re there to enable employees past and present – as well as their widows, widowers, dependants and other immediate family members – to ‘Lean On Us’, the theme of our charity’s current awareness-driving advertising campaign.

Every year, BDCI provides thousands of people connected to the Meat Industry with many different types of financial assistance, including pension top-ups, homecare equipment, home repairs and modifications, one-off grants and care costs. All of this assistance is made possible by a full and varied calendar of fund-raising activities. Further details of BDCI’s operations and events can be found on our website.

However, whilst BDCI’s core mission remains single-minded, the social environment in which we operate is ever-evolving, and we need to keep pace with a fast-changing world. For that reason, the board members and trustees responsible for the running of the charity are actively seeking to recruit a new trustee who can bring fresh ideas, new perspectives and innovative approaches to BDCI.

In common with charity trustee appointments, the position is voluntary and unpaid, although reasonable travel expenses will be offered. We meet four times a year as a board, with meetings normally held in London, and the successful candidate will also be required to offer additional input via tele-conferences throughout the year.

Whilst direct experience of the Meat Industry is not a pre-requisite, this would be advantageous. More important is the ability to contribute at board level and proactively help guide BDCI’s decision-making processes and strategic direction into the future.

If you feel that you can bring the required level of commitment, expertise and innovation to this vital and exciting role, please forward your contact details and a brief CV.
