The British Geriatrics Society is the professional membership organisation for doctors, nurses and other healthcare specialists engaged in the treatment and care of older people across the UK. We have over 3,800 members. We are a registered charity aiming to improve the healthcare of older people.  We are based in Farringdon, a vibrant area in Central London.

The role

We are recruiting cover for our full-time Membership Officer, who will be on 9 – 12 months maternity leave. The Membership officer is the main staff member delivering membership services to our 3,800 healthcare professional members

You will be the frontline contact for all membership queries, process and review new applications and renewals for membership of the Society. In addition, you will support delivery of the BGS conferences, attend external meetings to promote the Society and act as frontline support for colleagues using CiviCRM.

Occasional UK travel with overnight stays will be required with very occasional evening work to support the delivery of events.

  • To administer all membership applications / renewals including the processing of membership payments and related correspondence (50% of time)
  • To support members, as needed, through the joining and re-joining processes (10% of time)
  • To be the main liaison contact for internal and external stakeholders on the CRM database (15% of time)
  • To support the Director of Business Support and the Events Team in reconciling income and expenditure from BGS events, producing financial reports from within CiviCRM (10% of time)
  • To support the delivery of BGS events and the presence of the BGS exhibition stand at both BGS and external meetings (10% of time)
  • To maximise BGS memberships in key professions acting in close collaboration with the Communications, PR & Media Manager and the Chief Executive (4% of time).
  • To support the GeriGPs group, helping to prepare agendas, organise meetings and take minutes (1% of time).

Degree or equivalent

  • Experience

Experience of working in an office environment

Experience of interacting with senior professionals

Experience working in a membership department

Experience in either the Charity Sector, Health Sector or a Membership body (desirable)

Able to work to deadlines and highly organised

Analytical and detail orientated

Able to communicate succinctly both orally and in writing

Strong interpersonal skills

Pro-active, self-starter

Sound time management and able to multi-task and prioritise workload

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, databases and CRM systems

Confident in the use of email and the internet

Experience using CiviCRM (Desirable)
