Job Description

Trustee opportunities at Ashden, the UK’s leading green energy charity

Energy lies at the heart of some of the world’s biggest challenges. At Ashden we understand the transformative effect access to sustainable energy can have on lives and the essential role it plays in reducing carbon emissions and tackling climate change. Through our annual awards and associated work we find and reward the best in sustainable energy worldwide, showcase their work and support them to reach their full potential and inspire others to follow their lead.

We are looking for two new trustees to join a very smart group of board members and help to guide the development of the UK’s leading sustainable energy charity as we develop our strategy for the next three years which will take us to our 20th anniversary.

An important part of our work is increasing energy access to the poor in the developing world and emerging markets. To guide us in this area we would like to recruit a trustee who brings experience of international development (from a policy or an on-the-ground perspective), knowledge of the issues surrounding the goal of achieving universal sustainable energy access, and an understanding of the role of small and medium sized enterprises in addressing these issues. A growing part of our work has an Indian focus, so experience of living and working in India would be desirable.

We would like to fill the second vacancy with someone who has an excellent understanding and experience of the role of finance in accelerating the uptake of innovation in sustainable energy, development or social enterprise sectors.

More details of the requirements for each role and how to apply are on our website.

These are unpaid, voluntary positions.

We are an equal opportunities employer and welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons regardless of their race, sex, disability, religion/belief, sexual orientation or age.

Term of office: three years, renewable for a further three years after that time.

Time commitment: four half day board meetings per year in Central London plus annual strategy planning away day.

Applications close midday, Monday 27 November 2017.

Interviews will be held at the Ashden offices in Victoria during the week of 4 December.
