Job Description

Trustee Role

Registered charity Active in Recovery CIO (AiR) is looking for people dedicated to supporting recovery from substance and alcohol misuse, and those with dual diagnosis mental health problems, to join our Board of Trustees and help expand and maintain existing services by helping to create a long-term stainable business model.

We’re looking for people who have previously held roles in charities or public services and want to put their extensive experience to use supporting a vital frontline charity. We are also looking for people who may have less professional experience but have the time and skills to commit to writing high quality funding applications. We welcome applications from people who have themselves experienced substance, alcohol and/or mental health problems.

About Active in Recovery

Active in Recovery (AiR) is a creative and innovative charity whose mission is to provide artistic, sporting and therapeutic activities to support sustained recovery from substance and alcohol misuse for people in East Sussex. We also support people with dual diagnosis mental health issues, and their carers and supporters.

AiR was initially created as a peer support project and after two and a half years in operation has now established itself as an independent charity with a remit to cover the whole of East Sussex. We offer a variety of services and activities, including creative workshops, relaxation and touch therapies, access to counselling, educational workshops, and unusual, exhilarating sporting events.

Responsibilities of Trustees

Charity Trustees are legally responsible for ensuring the charity’s governance, financial status, and strategic progress. The specific responsibilities of trustees are outlined by the Charity Commission and we recommend you consult these guidelines before applying.

Board members are required to attend quarterly board meetings, the Annual General Meeting, and a strategy day. Meetings will be held in Eastbourne or Lewes.

All Trustees will be expected to contribute in some way to fundraising. This is most likely to be through writing funding and/or editing bids, but could also be through organising fundraising events.

The client requests no contact from agencies or media sales.
