Job Description

The post will focus upon information that is beneficial in all four nations of the UK, as well as information that might have an overall UK perspective.

1. CONTEXT AND PURPOSE OF JOB

  1. To undertake desktop research as directed, including coordinating and managing Freedom of Information requests, analysing published reports of relevance to the charity, and drafting critiques and briefing papers.
  1. To support and develop the charity’s media case studies, ensuring regular contact and interaction is maintained with individuals who meet the necessary criteria and are willing to speak to the media.

2. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

2.1 RESEARCH and ANALYSIS

2.1.1 To undertake desktop research on topics relevant to the charity’s work, gathering and analysing data to identify key trends and messages, and presenting these in a format that can be readily understood and utilized.

2.1.2 To obtain, on publication, key statutory reports, including those produced by regulators and adult protection agencies, analysing these to identify key trends and messages, and presenting these in a format that can be readily understood and utilised.

2.1.3 To draft and issue Freedom of Information requests as required, progress chase and collate responses, and provide analyses in a format that can be readily understood and utilised.

2.1.4 To produce Reports as required on topics researched.

2.2 MEDIA and OTHER ACTIVITY

2.2.1 To respond appropriately to telephone, written and email enquiries, and maintain own diary (making travel/booking arrangements as necessary).  To travel as required;

2.2.2 To maintain a support network for the charity’s media case studies, ensuring regular contact and interaction is maintained with individuals who meet the necessary criteria and are willing to speak to the media.

Person Specification

Essential Criteria

Education / qualifications / knowledge:

  • Numerate and literate, educated to at least A level standard and preferably degree standard (or appropriate equivalents)
  • Good working knowledge of social media platforms and their uses
  • Good IT skills including the effective use of MS Office and databases

Experience

• Experience of using social media/networking and blogging to boost public awareness of a cause

• Experience of websites updating.

  • Experience of undertaking basic research in order to substantiate arguments or thesis
  • Experience of presenting complex information in a style suitable for users with no formal experience of the subject.

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to work on own initiative

  • Ability to analyse complex information – both text and numbers – and write concise, clear reports

• Excellent time management skills

• Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills

• Excellent proofreading and editing skills
