Board Clerk
westway trust

Job Description

Purpose of the Role: To provide high quality, accurate and timely minutes of the meetings of the Board of Trustees and the Board’s sub-committees. You will work closely with the Chair of the Trust, other trustees and co-opted committee members, the Joint Chief Executives (one of whom is also the Company Secretary) and the Head of Policy, along with other colleagues as required.
There are typically about eight Board meetings each year, usually held in the early evening but at least one of these meetings each year may be a full-day session. In addition, the Board has five sub-committees, mostly meeting at least quarterly and again usually in the early evening but with some daytime meetings too. (The governance model at Westway Trust is currently being reviewed and it is possible that the frequency of meetings and the overall governance structure may change in due course).
You will also be required to minute the Trust’s Annual General Meeting, normally held during the day on a date in December, and any extraordinary general meetings that may on occasion take place.
Although meeting dates are normally set well in advance, circumstances may result in individual dates being changed nearer the time. Flexibility on your part will therefore be required.
We would particularly welcome applications from people living in the North Kensington area. Recognising the large number of meetings in a year, we would be prepared to consider splitting the role between more than one person if necessary to ensure that all the meetings could be covered.
Office space for the writing up of minutes can be provided. However, we would be happy for this work to be undertaken on a homeworking basis, subject to you, with support from us if appropriate, having suitable arrangements in place in your home.

About Us: Westway Trust is a charity that was established to steward the 23-acres of space under the Westway flyover and works together with the local community to enable North Kensington to thrive. We dedicate ourselves to the social, environmental and economic wellbeing of this vibrant community. To deliver our ambitions we work with over 60 member organisations ranging from community groups and residents' associations to schools and sports clubs, as well as other local groups and people.

The estate is home to more than three acres of public green space, 120 tenants including more than 20 charities and non-profit organisations, two sports and fitness facilities, 48 light industrial units, 34 offices, 32 shops, community stables and a skate park.

By working with local people we want North Kensington to continue to be a place where everyone has the opportunity to be physically active; participate in arts and culture; get the economic opportunities they deserve; and live in a green and healthy environment.

Westway Trust is governed by its Memorandum and Articles of Association.  A Board of up to 12 Trustees oversees the work of the Trust and is responsible for ensuring that the Trust spends its money sensibly and on the activities it was raised for, continues to meet its commitments to the community in accordance with its charitable objectives and complies with the law.
