Job Description

Malvern Special Families is recruiting for a Chairperson to join their well established board

Set up in the 1980s by a group of parents whose children had special needs, Malvern Special Families (MSF) is a small but highly regarded charity helping to improve the lives of children and young people with disabilities along with their families.  They do this through delivering excellent clubs and play schemes, enabling children to socialise and to develop confidence and new skills through play-based activities and by raising awareness about special needs in the community.  They also provide a vital support and break to carers and families. 

We make a huge positive difference to the lives of the children and young people that use our services and to their families. We often hear from MSF families that our service provides a lifeline to them.

MSF are now looking for a new Chair to join and lead the board of trustees. The new Chair will be required to lead the current board in its role as a governing body: setting strategy and ensuring exemplary governance and fiscal control.

Ideally the Chair would have previous board level experience. Most importantly they will have leadership experience and an understanding of good governance. They will also need to be able to inspire and motivate whilst showing sensitivity.  They will need to understand the changing environment of the sector and identify opportunities for MSF to develop.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a charity whose work is inspirational and to contribute to the valuable support that they give to this important group of young people. 

The board has bi-monthly evening meetings.  There will be some additional preparation for meetings and representation of the organisation externally plus support to the CEO.

Candidates will need to have or be willing to undertake a DBS check and child protection training.
