Job Description

Autism Wessex - Trustee

About us:

Founded in 1968, Autism Wessex provides varied and far reaching services to anyone affected by autism. These include social care, adult residential services, information & advice and our education provision, Portfield School.

Our vision is of a world where people with autism are active citizens enjoying maximum independence and a good quality of life.  Over the past 50 years we’ve been very successful in pursuing this vision despite the rapidly changing health and social care sector.  We are now in an exciting and challenging period of looking at our strategic direction to make sure we can respond to continuing change and achieve our goals.

Trustees:

We are looking for people with energy and commitment from a range of backgrounds to be part of leading development and change as we embark on a new chapter for the charity. We are reviewing our services and planning a future based on increasing our impact, partnership and collaboration across the region.  We are looking for people who will contribute actively  by considering strategic direction; setting overall policy; defining targets; questioning everything we do to find better ways to do more and to play a crucial role in building a strong and stable financial future as the charity grows.

We want to make sure that our Board has a broad mix of skills and experience. If you have a background in health & safety, risk management, property, HR, finance, fundraising, safeguarding, managing change, education, social care or clinical or therapeutic approaches we would be very interested to hear from you.

Trustees are generally expected to:

  • attend quarterly Board meetings and an annual planning day;
  • be willing sit on sub-committees;
  • attend some events on an ad hoc basis;
  • support events from time to time.

Travel and out of pocket expenses can be reimbursed.
