Volunteers Manager
safewise

Job Description

We are looking for someone with a record of success in recruiting, supporting, coaching, monitoring and rewarding volunteers.

We need you to manage rigorous and efficient systems to standardise procedures at both our existing centres, double the size of our volunteer team, and prepare us to open our third centre in Swindon/ Wiltshire.

What we do

SafeWise is a charity which runs immersive safety, health, citizenship and life skills education centres in Bournemouth and Weymouth, with a third centre planned for Swindon/Wiltshire in 2020. These centres feature full size scenarios such as streets, pedestrian crossings, buses, trains, fire and home safety scenarios, with exciting plans for future development. We teach visitors of all ages a wide range of skills for life such as fire, water, home, road and travel safety, health, crime, internet safety, bullying and mental wellbeing. These skills for life are often marginalised in our education system, but we think they are as important as literacy and maths.

What we believe

Our philosophy is that every visitor should experience a fun and immersive learning environment in which they ‘discuss, decide and do’, rather than simply listening and being told. Talk, decision-making and practical activity in our realistic scenarios deliver memorable learning and motivate visitors in a way that is difficult to replicate in a classroom.

What we are looking for

Overall, we want to double our visitor numbers within three years. To do that, we need to double the numbers in our volunteer pool too. We need a volunteers professional who knows how to recruit, train, support and monitor a larger and more diverse team. Someone who can build strong relationships with key organisations to promote this unique and exciting  volunteering role. Can you work with our Centre-based teams to set up and manage robust systems for recruitment and management across our two centres, and prepare us for our third? Can you define and promote different volunteer roles requiring specific skill sets? Can you enthuse and inspire volunteers to achieve consistently high standards of delivery?

The detailed bit

This is a part time post of a flexible 21 hours a week around core hours and job requirements. It is a one year contract in the first instance with the intention to extend depending on income generation. It is likely to be based at SafeWise HQ in Bournemouth but could be based at Weymouth instead if preferred. Regular travel will be required to our other centre and for meetings about our third centre in Swindon/Wiltshire, and elsewhere on occasions. The post holder must be willing and able to be based in the area to attend local volunteer-related and networking events and to have a strong presence in our centres, leading by example. This post is not currently suited to job share.

Please contact us to arrange a visit to one of our centres to meet our Chief Executive and the team and to find out more about the role and our new strategy.
